Buddha once sat under a Bodhi tree to meditate to enlightment. Since then, the Bodhi tree has been considered a sacred tree not only in Thailand, but in many Buddhist countries around the world and can be found in numerous carvings and pictures, for example as the tree of life.

In this massive and heavy carving made of approx. 3 cm thick Suar wood, the Bodhi tree with its many, detailed carved leaves, is surrounded by an unusual frame made of tendrils, which gives the mystical overall picture a noble touch.

Hand-carved in northern Thailand, when looking at this work of art, you can literally feel the monotonous mantras of the monks in the wat.
